Description: Maxfield Parrish’s “The Young King Of The Black Isles” Original Matted and Period-Framed Color Illustration (facing page 74) from the 1909 First Edition of Wiggin & Smith’s ‘The Arabian Nights’. The color and condition are excellent. The image is 6 1/2”x 5 1/4”. Outermost frame dimensions are 10 1/2” (11 1/2” to top of crown) x 8 3/8”. (Thought the crowned frame was quite fitting for the King). It is hinged/backed with 2-ply acid-free backing, new hardware and dustcover July, 2024 and ready to hang. MP signature barely discernible (due to coloration) bottom right corner (photo #9). A nice cost/size alternative to the full size print (Ref. Flacks 4th, page 46, last photo #21). The Young King was originally painted for and appeared as the color frontispiece for the May 18, 1907 issue of Colliers Magazine, in the feature ‘Arabian Nights VIII’, issued as a print the same year and finally as an illustration in the 1909 Wiggin & Smith publication (and several subsequent editions, but eliminated in later editions). Note: The first 11 photos are taken without glass to avoid reflection/glare issues, photos 13 (slight angle) 14 & 15 after completion of project. Also Note: Photos 16, 17, 18 & 19, the book itself, and tissue lining are shown for provenance only; the book is NOT included. The tissue lining WILL be included.
