Description: Maxfield Parrish’s “Old King Cole” ‘MINI’ - Matted, Period-Framed Promotional Card Advertising the ‘King Cole Bar’ in the St. Regis Hotel, New York. The ‘actual’ image measures 1+5/16”x 5+1/16” ( photos #6 & 7); outermost frame dimensions are 5”x 7 3/4”. The frame is a cut down/mitered original Parrish frame from the 1920’s. King Cole was a Parrish commission by Colonel John Jacob Astor, founder of the hotel in 1906, to be a mural over the bar. The color and detail are amazing for its size. It is backed with acid-free cotton rag board, new hardware, dustcover and bump-ons August, 2024 and ready to hang. A ‘copy’ of the full card, before framing, will be included as well as the bottom trimmed portion of the framed card (photo #8); it mentions the hidden joke embedded in the mural and boasts it being the birthplace of the ‘Bloody Mary’ in 1934.
