Description: We are offering five CDV photographs of paintings of medieval British Royalty & a marble statue of the bust of Albert Edward, the Prince of Wales. Photos are circa 1870s. 1.) Mary Queen of Scots photograph of a painting of her. Mary Queen of Scots was born in 1542 and died in 1587 by means of the executioner's axe by order of her cousin, Queen Elizabeth I of England. Mary held the title Queen of Scots and also queen consort of France when she married King Francis II of France. Queen Elizabeth I was the daughter of King Henry VIII and his second wife, Anne Bolyn, whom he married after he divorced his first wife, which was against the laws of the Catholic Church. King Henry VIII broke from the Catholic Church and Protestantism was born. The fact that Mary was the great-granddaughter of King Henry VII, along with the claim of a Catholic faction that Elizabeth was not the legitimate heir to the throne because of Henry's divorce and marriage to Anne, caused many to believe Mary had a stronger claim to the throne than Elizabeth. Because Elizabeth feared she might not be able to hold on to the throne, she ordered her cousin, Mary to be beheaded. 2.) Henry Stewart, Lord Darnley, and cousin and second husband of Mary Queen of Scots. Born in 1545; died 1567. According to information we have found, Henry was jealous of Mary's secretary, David Riccio, and was drinking heavily. There was evidence he was involved in Riccio's murder in 1566, and he was an embarrassment to Mary. While Mary was away from the home they were temporarily residing in, the house was blown up and Lord Darnley's body was found strangled in a nearby garden. Shortly after this, Mary married James Hepburn, 4th Earl of Bothwell, the instigator of Darnley's murder. 3.) The Coronation Chair and the State Sword & Shield of Edward III. Edward III (1312-1377) was King of England from 1327 to 1377. He led England into the Hundred Years' War with France. Photo by W. Hayler, Pimlico, South Wales. 4.) King Robert The Bruce After the Original Picture at Taymouth Castle. Robert the Bruce was King of Scots from 1306 to his death in 1329. He led Scotland during the First War of Scottish Independence against England. 5.) Statue of the bust of Albert Edward, Prince of Wales.
