Rinker of the U.S. 2nd Dragoons who died during the Mexican-American War. History: Franklin Pennington (b. 21th April 1822 in Chester County, Pennsylvania – d. 15th October 1898 (or 1899) in La Plata, Charles County, Maryland) was a lawyer and U.S. Army soldier in the Mexican-American War. He enlisted in the 2nd Dragoons on 26th August 1847 and was discharged on 24th June 1848. He is listed as “captain” on his tombstone. According to the 1850 U.S. Census he was a lawyer. Robert S. Rinker (b. 18th May 1828 in Shenandoah, Virginia – d. 1st (2nd or 4th) May 1848 in Mexico City, Mexico) was a U.S. Army soldier during the Mexican-American War. He enlisted in the 2nd Dragoons on 26 August 1847. According to the Army records he died on 4th May 1848. This date is different from this manuscript which states it was the 1st of May and others which state it was the 2nd of May. He was the son of Absalom Rinker (1783-1855) and Elizabeth Snyder (1787-1858). Condition: Typical folds, creases/wrinkles, soiling, few tiny closed tears at fold junctions. See pictures. Provenance: This manuscript comes from a collection of papers related to the Rinker Family of Mount Jackson and Shenandoah, Virginia.
