(See photos for Artist info)Paper size: 5 7/8" " x 5.5" (approx. 14,9 x 14,0 cm)Image size: 4.25 x 3 1/8 inches About the artist: The painter and graphic artist Michael Rabe was born in Hamburg in 1957 and studied at the Hamburg Academy of Fine Arts from 1975 to 1981. He developed an early interest in old painting and in old graphic techniques such as copperplate engraving and Mezzotinto, which he taught himself. Guided by this interest in the past and his efforts in mastering as many handicraft techniques as possible as the basis for his artistic work, he has chosen a way which is quite unusual for his day, leading him for a long time through dark madieval lanes. The topics changed at about the end of the 70s from fantastic realism to political realism; also, colour almost completely disappeared from his pictures and the contents became dominant. With the beginning of the 80s, he developed freer, lighter etchings and water colours along with the heavier oil paintings.
