All controls/knobs work smoothly, this is a really high-performance premium ball-head (check the reviews on B&H Photo for expert opinions). I used it only two or three times on an iFootage Cobra monopod (which I'm also selling, see other listings). Selling because I just didn't use it, given that I found a geared head was the right solution for the heavier lenses I was using at that time.
