Description: This auction is for the components shown in the first eight pictures and described under 4) on the list below (in bold). I have taken apart a Perkin Elmer Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometer Model 460 and selling its parts/components. This apparatus has been sitting in the back of my workshop for at least 10 years. It was bought at a university surplus store. With a few exceptions, I do not know whether the parts work, or what it would take to make them work again. Here is what I do know: None of the mirrors are intact. To some degree or other, they are clouded or otherwise flawed through exposure to chemical fumes. The grating is not included, but its mount is. I did plug in the unit before taking it apart. The hollow-cathode lamp (not included) lit up, and its brightness could be regulated as expected. However, the meter did not indicate the current. (I checked it separately, and it is faulty, getting stuck early on the scale.) In set-up mode, the display showed a combination of zeros and eights. In operational mode, it gave figures that seemed reasonable (last pic). There was a faint whitish glow coming out of the D2-lamp housing. (My guess is that it came from the heater, rather than the arc). The chopper motor could be heard spinning. Only the first eight pics show the parts included in this auction. The last four pics show the unit before I took it apart; these are for reference only. I divvied up the parts into the following four packages, each listed on eBay as a separate auction: 1) Electronics—the whole drawer with all the circuits boards as well as the wiring harness. I took care not to make any cuts to the wiring harness, with one exception: I did cut off the socket for the hollow-cathode lamp plug. About 40 lbs. Requires large box for shipping. SOLD 2) Deuterium arc lamp (L648-01) along with the housing and mounting/base. The condition of the lamp is unknown, except that the heater filament is intact. Weight: 9 lbs. plus box and packaging materials. Requires medium-size box for shipping. 3) Burner/Nebulizer: Door with glass only. All other parts found already a new home. Weight: 3 lbs plus box and packaging materials. SOLD 4) This applies to this auction! All components in the path of the light beam outside the burner/nebulizer, except for the D2-lamp plus its housing/mount (sold separately), the HC-lamp plus its holder (which I keep), and the grating (which I already sold). Mirrors are all shot (clouded or otherwise marred), the reusable parts include the mounts, the chopper, the PM detector (in its housing), the mA meter panel (the meter itself does not work), and the mechanisms to select slot size and wavelength (worked before I removed the parts). The wire and chain are good. Weight: 26 lbs plus box and packaging materials. Requires a large box. Shipping note #1: The shipping is based on the weight and dimensions of everything included in this auction. If you are interested in only certain components of this auction, I'd be happy to send you just these. I will reduce the shipping cost according to the weight/dimensions of the desired parts. For this to work, communication is important. Please contact me either before the closing of the auction, or right thereafter. Shipping note #2: Alternative delivery option for buyers in Wisconsin or the UP: If you are not in a particular hurry, I might be able to deliver this item to your place for a considerably lower charge. If you are potentially interested in this option, please contact me prior to making a bid. If you are interested in only one (or a few) small part(s), don't hesitate to ask. I'm open to any reasonable suggestions.
