Description: A lock plate for a model 1816 Harpers Ferry converted musket found on the Chancellorsville Battlefield in Virginia. The musket was issued as a flintlock but converted over to percussion in the 1840’s at a Federal armory. Infantry units from both sides were still equipped with these converted arms throughout the Civil War. The Battle of Chancellorsville was fought from April 30 to May 6, 1863, near the village of Chancellorsville. Two related battles were fought nearby on May 3 in the vicinity of Fredericksburg. The campaign pitted Union Army Maj. Gen. Joseph Hooker's “Army of the Potomac” against an army less than half its size, General Robert E. Lee's Confederate “Army of Northern Virginia”. The artifact measures 6 1/4” and comes as shown. All of the artifacts are guaranteed to be original as stated.
