Description: Method of payment Monastery of Batalha, View Conventual Church (Portugal) An Original Historical Print from HistoryOnPaper This is a single (1) original 1880 page with spectacular wood engraving(s) rescued from one of the many books published of the history of the countries of the world. Engravings in these books have exceptional detail, being works of art in their own right. They often depict people or scenes from a different perspective than usually seen in more formal prints. Any patterns on picture are a photo artifact not in actual print...Minor aging...very nice engraving with great detail. These look great framed as a piece of the past...the whole page for a interesting historical look or just the engraving. Side 1: Monastery of Batalha, View of Conventual Church (Portugal) - The Monastery of Batalha is a Dominican convent in the municipality of Batalha, historical Beira Litoral province, in the Centro of Portugal. The Monastery of the Dominicans of Batalha was built to commemorate the victory of the Portuguese over the Castilians at the battle of Aljubarrota in 1385. It was to be the Portuguese monarchy's main building project for the next two centuries. It is a highly original, national Gothic style, profoundly influenced by Manueline art, as demonstrated by its masterpiece, the Royal Cloister. Prior to this, virtually all prints (and engravings) were produced as illustrations to be included in a manuscript, book, newspaper, or pamphlet. Therefore, a vast majority of original prints have been over the years removed from these original sources. Prints are produced using many different techniques: relief printing (woodcut & wood engraving), intaglio printing (steel & copper plate engraving, drypoint, aquatint, etc), and planographic printing (lithography, serigraphy, inkjet, laser, etc.). While the commercial value of a print depends on such factors as age, rarity, and condition, the real value of a print is its tie to its history and/or its esthetic beauty.
