Description: This book is in great condition, but it is not without flaw. The cover shows its age, but nothing too extreme. There is shelf wear to the edges and corners in addition to some wear on the faces of the covers. The leather of the spine is cracking but still holding. The spine shows greater wear than the covers. There is a small section of leather missing from the base of the spine. All pages are accounted for in this book, and none are loose. All pages are clear of any writing or markings except for the title page (which is pictured) and the last page (which does not have a photo). The writing on the front page is French and says, "By Monsier de Montesquiou author since that time of The Spirit of Laws". The back cover simply has a few odd bits of writing, nothing too large, however. (Photos of it can be provided upon request.) Monsier de Montesquiou is Charles de Secondat, Baron de Montesquieu. He wrote the book The Spirit of Law, which influenced the Founding Fathers of the United States. That book also influenced many people in many other nations and those nations' constitutions echo the messages brought forth in Charles de Secondat's work. Additionally, the note on the title page is correct, Charles de Secondat did, in fact, write this book. Lettres Persanes was written under the pseudonym Chez Pierre Marteau. This name was used by several people between the 1600s and 1700s. This name was used in France, Germany, and Holland, largely by people who disliked or were mistreated by the governments of those nations. This name allowed the true authors to protect their names and standing. Feel free to contact the seller with any questions or fair offers.
