Made of BLACK OXIDE COATED STEEL, the screw fits Mossberg 500 series shotguns, including 590 and 590A1...as well as 800 & 900 series that have the thumb-operated safety button on top of the receiver. Please note: this cap screw will not fit the older 500-ATP (police model, forerunner of the 590) that has the factory metal safety... nor will it apply to the Maverick 88, which has the cross-bolt safety located in the trigger assembly. These cap screws work perfectly with OEM and after-market safety buttons, as well-- such as enhanced, oversized, extended, Pro-Mag, etc. The thicker head extends up above the top of the safety just a little, and gives the shotgun a bit more tactical look and feel, I think. But more importantly, it is easier & more practical to remove if necessary. Plus, the allen head cap screw is superior to a slotted screw. The hex head provides a more secure fit with the wrench, and easier one-handed operation that you don't get with a regular screw. Installation is simple, and takes only a couple of minutes.
