VERY RARE TO FIND ANY GOWNS OF THIS ERA ON THE OPEN MARKET, LET ALONE ONE THAT IS SO UNUSUAL IN STYLING AND SO EXCEPTIONAL IN CONDITION. FASHIONED OF A SATIN FINISHED SILK AND IS SEWN BY HAND FULLY THROUGHOUT. PIPED SEAMS ATOP THE SHOULDER AND REAR WITH THE FRONT BODICE IN PIPED ROWS AND PUFF RUCHED GATHERING. THE SLEEVES ARE TOPPED IN A PRINT SILK VELVET WITH A FRINGED EDGE, SLEEVES FALL LONG WITH A GATHERING ON THE INNER ARM SEAM AND FINISHED IN A MATCHING VELVET CUFF. SKIRTING FALLS FULL WITH A WIDE BAND OF THE PRINT SILK VELVET RUNNING FULLY AROUND, TOP AND BOTTOM EDGES FULLY FRINGED. THE INTERIOR BODICE IS LINED IN LINEN WITH THE INTEIROR INNER LINEN MEETING TO CLOSE WITH A DRAWSTRING GATHERING AT THE HIGH EMPIRE WAIST IN THE REAR AND THE TOP WOULD HAVE BEEN PINNED CLOSED. CONDITION: NEARLY PERFECT. THE SLEEVE ON THE LEFT SIDE HAS COME FREE SEVERAL INCHES AND NEEDS TO BE TACKED BACK. THE INNER LINING OF THE UNDER ARMS SHOWS DISCOLORATION WITH ONLY A THUMBPRINT OF DISCOLORATION SHOWING ON THE FRONT LEFT SIDE HIGH UNDERARM ON THE FRONT, ALL BUT UNNOTED. THERE IS A HAND SIZED VERY FAINT WATER STAIN ON THE SKIRT. IT IS VIRTUALLY IMPOSSIBLE TO SEE DUE TO THE VIBRANT SHINE.
