NATHAN TURK / N TURK 1950s Women’s Western Suit Rodeo Cowgirl

Description: Rare original 1950s cowgirl suit by the legendary Nathan Turk of Hollywood. Turk was the “other” Nudie, who designed beautiful fancy western outfits for many of the leading country singers and western stars, as well as for rodeo entertainers, movies, and so on. This one was made for the Smith & Chandler Indian Traders western wear stores of West Yellowstone, Montana, and Las Vegas, Nevada. Has the Smith & Chandler tag on both the shirt and pants, and the N. Turk tag also on the shirt. Later this outfit was in the Warner Brothers costume collection (there is a WB tag inside). Nice beige gabardine fabric with light blue corduroy yokes, cuffs and pants. Matching blue snaps down the front and on the cuffs. Zipper and button on the side of the pants. There is a sort of “Indian” motif used on the sides of the pant legs and on the shirt collar, which is a sort of faux leather material. On the legs it is a kind of fringed design and on a leaf design on the collar. The collar design is deteriorating a little, as you can see in the photos, but not terribly. There is some fraying inside the collar above the Turk tag, and then a little tear at the back of the collar fold. A tiny bit of fraying on the cuffs, but only a tiny bit. Aside from that I see no holes, no rips, no stains. A bit of aging and signs of use but really in very nice shape. I tried to clumsily show the measurements in the photos but if it isn’t clear here they are: Shirt Bust 20” pit to pit. Waist 16 1/2” at tightest part Length about 21” from top shoulder seam to bottom hem. Pants Waist 14” across, so about a 27-28. Hips 19 1/2” across Inseam 29” A rare classic western outfit by one of the legends of western wear. Very hard to find these suits. Please ask for any further details or photos.
