Transferware manufacture is an artful production that creates variations in ink tone depth from different production locations, dates of production, even time of day. We have been collectors and sellers of antique and new transferware for over 50 years and see both subtle and great variances in old and new production. Even in new pieces, we often see an especially big difference from one year's production to the next. (Sometimes so much so, that we cannot "match up" pieces to sell as a set.) While this is part of the charm of collecting antique transferware, newer buyers usually prefer minimal variations. The best way to avoid variations is to purchase as many as you can from the same production time. All of the sets we list on eBay are matching sets from the same production. They will be the best matching you can find. We actually avoid listing multiple production years at the same time, so that one doesn't combine purchases to find that one set is lighter/darker than the other.
