Description: Are you located in Newport Vermont? Know anyone who is? If so, this is one heckuva Newport collectible. This 2-piece lot consists of 1) An original letter on the stationery of the Orleans Trust Co. in Newport authorizing the sale of the bank's own shares in the New York Central Railroad Co. by the latter's Vice President, L.C. Desautels. It has the bank's embossed 1891 corporate seal to the right of the 3 signatures. The letter is in clean condition with a few light folds. 2) The actual stock being transferred with the bank's name on the bearer line! It has 3 bank officer signatures on the back and remains in excellent clean VF-XF condition, also with a few light folds. The stock, dated 1931, displays the portrait of Cornelius Vanderbilt and is bright orange - a rare color (most NYCRR stocks are brown or blue). It, too, has an embossed corporate seal with four states shown on it. Very rare find and very unusual combination. Once in a blue moon a bank letter will be found with a stock, but we've never seen one transferring its own shares in the same stock!
