Description: These 31 interesting old stereoptican cards show Niagara Falls including:Whirlpool Rapids, winter scenes of ice and snow, the Niagara River at night and The Maid of the Mist. Outstanding ones show the original railway suspension bridge which existed from 1855-1897. According to Wikipedia, this was the first built double-decker bridge with trains using the upper deck while pedestrians and carriages used the lower deck. It was located 2.5 miles below the actual Falls. Later the Steel Arch Bridge was built; now called The Whirlpool Rapids Bridge connecting Niagara Falls, NY with Niagara Falls, Canada.. The other bridge photo shows the wooden suspension bridge considered the highest in the world at the time the photo was taken. There are a few miscellaneous cards including one of a "Papoose in Indian Cradle-Goat Island", which I believe is north of the Falls. The cards are either in sepia. or black and white. Condition of all is good considering their age and use. From my father's collection.
