They were initially released in extremely small numbers exclusively in Milan, Italy at two in-store locations in 2014. 4 colorways were released: black, white, multi-color, and in this grey. There was later a limited release in store at the Nike 21 Mercer location in Manhattan a few months later. The Kobe 9 was initially released as a high after Kobe's achilles injury, but were extremely difficult to wear casually because of their high cut. The Kobe 9 HTMs were the first to release as a low top.
