These controlled bursts of Hydrogen are just strong enough to draw off the soft ions of surface tarnish but far too weak to effect the hard ions of the metal being cleaned. Please do not clean items containing opals or pearls as these should not be immersed in water or items that are laquered. 8 Easy Steps to Using the Electrolytic Cleaning Plate 1) Place the metal cleaning plate in the bottom of your sink 2) Put two heaped spoonfulls of washing soda on the plate 3) Pour in very hot water from the kettle to dissolve the soda crystals 4) Fill the sink with enough hot water to cover the items that need to be cleaned.
