Description: OCEANIC (1899) She was built by Harland & Wolff, Ltd., Belfast, Ireland for the White Star Line. She was a 17,274 GT ship with dimensions of 685'x68'. Twin-screw, 21 knots, triple expansion engines, three masts and two funnels. Displacement of 28,500 tons. Passengers: 410 first, 300 second and 1,000 third. Launched January 14, 1899. Maiden voyage: Liverpool-New York Sept 6, 1899. Converted to an armed merchant cruiser in August 1914. Stranded on Foula Island, Sept 8, 1914 and became a total loss.
