Description: Oenothera gaura is a herbaceous biennial in the Onagraceae family. Its native range is southern Ontario to northern, central, and eastern United States. Some familiar names include Biennial Beeblossom or Biennial Gaura. It is a biennial, meaning it will take two seasons to complete its life cycle. It lives in prairies, deserts, rocky areas, and dry areas. It can grow to six feet tall at maturity. Its growth looks whispy, so it can quickly disperse its seeds in the wind. The leaves turn red in the second year. The stems are covered in white, soft hairs. The flowers are white to light pink with four petals, eight stamens, and one pistil. It is drought tolerant with little water needed in full sun. Zones 4-8 Germination Sow seeds on top of the medium and lightly cover with soil. Keep moist in a bright spot. Do not cover with plastic and keep temperatures around 65-75F. Germination is in 7-60 days.
