Benson 4 Book Series:- The Unwanted- Friend Of The Rich- Janet- Portrait Of an English Nobleman 1937 (all), Appleton-Century PublishersIllustrator - Reginald Birch This 4 Volume Set is without the outer cardboard slipcase that they were originally issued in. All 4 books are in excellent condition, appear to be unread, with just some minor flaws to the dust jackets and the covers. The previous owner, whose name is scribbled in pencil on the first (illustrated) page of each book, obviously took very good care of the books and had them put into mylar wraps. All make for excellent display copies. I believe i have put a very fair price on this set and with the detailed 'Item Description' & condition notes & photos, you will not be surprised or disappointed by what you receive. --- From a long time (20+ yrs) eBay-er with a 100% Positive feedback record. Condition:Overall, in 'Very Good +' condition. Covers, underneath the dust jackets, still retain their original bright red color. Cover inside hinges are all very firm and not torn at all. Paper title labels mounted on front & spine are firmly in place, tho the "Portrait.." & "Unwanted " show some smudging on the fronts which seem to be more from the printing process, as opposed to being mishandled. And while the spines remain sturdy & solid, the top & bottom edges are a bit soft. There are no corner bumps on any of the four. A 1" section of the lower edge of the "Friend ..." book is showing some white spotting - book does not seem 'scraped' but was possibly hit with some white-out. I managed to scrape off a few flecks but will leave the rest of the job to someone with better eyes and restorer skills. Interior - Only real flaw is previous owners name penciled in the top margin of the front free paper. Seems it will easily erase, but again, will leave it to the new owner to do, if they so wish. Just a barely perceptible hint of fade/tanning to the page edges. No other writing/highlighting, no dog-eared pages, no funny smell. Dust Jackets: Rough spots highlighted below, but overall they're still bright and not really tanned/faded at all.Last 4 pics show them on a light table, which should give best view of the seam splits. The Unwanted - some small tears & chips on the front and spine, cover and inside flap have separated from the other half but very hard to notice while in the mylar wrap.Portrait Of An English Nobleman - same as above except the front & flap are only partially separated along the bottom half, along with a small section of the other side of the spine. Also, a small tear on the front upper left area.Friend of The Rich - one nice size chunk missing from the top of the spine, otherwise just a few little edge wrinkles.Janet - lower 2" shows a slight separation of the front & back to the spine, a small chip to the top of spine area, and big chipped area along the top of the front edge. ************************ Please ask for any other descriptions, clarification or pictures.
