Description: Orig 1918 VICTORY BOYS UNITED WAR WORK CAMPAIGN WWI Soldier Relief Window Poster "A boy from this home has enrolled in the Victory Boys to earn and give to make our fighters fit." Size about 11-1/2 x 8-1/2, litho in 3 colors on lightly toned paper, near-fine condition with light handling bends which may press out quite nicely. In 1918, President Wilson asked the 7 groups that formed the United War Work Campaign (YMCA, YWCA, National Catholic War Council, Jewish Welfare Board, American Library Association, War Camp Community Service and the Salvation Army) to add a sub-division for the children. This was the first time that American children had been asked to help in a national effort. The Victory Boys, Victory Girls and Victory Juniors were launched in November of 1918. Victory Boys and Victory Girls were between 12 and 20 years old. In general they had to turn in their pledge card by November 18th to receive the button, but some communities only handed out the button after the pledge was completed. A small banner was also available, to hang in a window, to let others know that a victory child lived here. It was encouraged that each Victory Boy and Victory Girl pledge to EARN $5 to the United War Work Campaign. Newspapers listed ways that they could earn the funds. They were NOT allowed to solicit the funds. Many communities exceeded their pledged amounts. World War 1 technically ended November 11, 1918. If you do this, then that friend will forward the postcards in a letter rate envelope to you the buyer, and the shipping risk will be yours, not mine. Multiple purchases can also be combined when you ship to a USA recipient. This is the way of the future on ebay, as more and more sellers move away from the risks of untracked international letter rate mail. 6) REPRODUCTION OF IMAGES: Seller is not selling the exclusive rights to reproduce images of the item offered. Buyer is of course free to reproduce as they wish, but seller retains and may exercise the right to reproduce any images of the item for any purpose before or after the sale, without permission from or compensation to the buyer. 7) LISTING DISCREPANCIES: If the Title, Description, and/or Photo on a listing do not match, for gosh sakes don't buy it. Mistakes happen. Let me know instead so I can fix the listing. If you do buy, the item described in the Title of the listing takes precedence over anything else. If you don't agree with that, I will consider that your request to cancel the transaction of the faulty listing.
