Original Hand-Colored Etching Rothenburg Silk Ernst Geissendorfer Signed Germany

Description: Vintage, original hand-colored etching on silk entitled “Rothenburg Tauber” (Rothenburg [on the] Tauber River) by German artist Ernst Geissendorfer (1908-1993), perhaps c. 1950-1970. Etching is framed and matted. The etching title “Rothenburg Tauber” and the annotation and signature “Original - Ernst Geissendorfer” are written by the artist in the lower margin of the matte. The visible portion of the etching in the matte opening measures approximately 4 3/4" wide and 7" high. The wood frame is approximately 10 5/8” wide and 12 5/8” high. Etching appears to be in excellent vintage condition. Matte appears to be in excellent condition, although it might be a bit faded. Etching and matte have not been examined outside of frame. Wood frame appears to be in very good to excellent vintage condition, with minor signs of wear, mostly on the corners, and nicks, indentations, and chips. There are also stains on the back of the frame. Paper backing appears to be in good to very good condition with several tears and punctures. The tape along the edges of the paper backing appears to be losing some adhesion and becoming a bit brittle. Etching may have been professionally framed and matted. Estate sale find.
