Description: Intercosmos The program for joint work in the field of the exploration and use of outer space for peaceful purposes of the socialist countries was adopted in April 1967. The program received its official name in 1970. In each of the nine countries participating in the program - Bulgaria, Hungary, East Germany, Mongolia, Poland, Czechoslovakia, Romania, the USSR - a coordinating body was created responsible for the implementation of the cooperation program as a whole (Vietnam joined the program in 1979). In accordance with the program, the Soviet Union donated its equipment for space research free of charge: rockets and satellites on which scientific equipment created by scientists and specialists of the participating states was installed. The satellites of this series differed in appearance and composition of scientific equipment, although they were based on a unified design. According to the complex of scientific tasks, satellites can be divided into three main groups: to study the sun,for ionospheric research,to study the Earth's magnetosphere.
