The uniform included in this lot is known as an Enlisted Man’s Winter Service A Uniform and was issued to enlisted US Marines during the Second World War. The uniform was officially referred to as the USMC winter service uniform and was worn on noncombat occasions or while on leave. These were separate from the dress blues which saw less use during the war as formal occasions to be worn on became limited with the war going on. This is a complete example of a World War ll Enlisted Man’s Winter Class A Service Uniform including a dress cap, pants, and the service jacket made in 1943 that are all named to Miles Allen Carhart. The service jacket itself is a size 38 and features corporal service chevrons, ruptured duck honorable discharge insignia, an original World War ll USMC honorable discharge belt, and a dress belt made in 1943. It’s truly a complete uniform that has private tailoring done on the pockets for a sharp look. The pants are a size 29x30 and were also manufactured in 1943. The hat is an enlisted men’s forest green dress cap with an original World War ll Ega cap device. The owner of the complete uniform and patches was Miles Allen Carhart. Miles was born June 22, 1922, to Amanda and Nathan Carhart a World War l veteran of the 101st Supply Train Company in Galesville, Wisconsin. Before the war Miles worked on his family's farm as a farmhand raising corn and operating a tractor. Inspired by his father's service during the Great War, Miles enlisted on March 31, 1944, in the United States Marine Corps. Assigned the serial number 970202 he was trained as a recruit at Parris Island, South Carolina. Assigned to Guard Unit 522 Miles was in charge of guarding the US Marine Corps armories across the country stateside and was responsible for guarding US government facilities and top secret projects. After the war ended on September 2, 1945 Miles stayed in the Corps. Receiving the American Campaign Medal and World War ll Victory Medal for his service as a USMC guard. On August 10, 1946 Miles Allen Carhart was honorably discharged at the rank of a Corporal after 2 years of honorable service in the Marine Corps. After the war, he returned to Wisconsin and married Shirley Severson and lived happily having 2 children. On January 11,1993 Miles Carhart passed away at the age of 70 and was buried at Greenwood Cemetery in Galesville, Wisconsin. All items are in great condition and all buttons are present. This an amazing group of items that include a complete Marine Dress uniform and a novelty patch(likely from later in his life) from the Second World War that show the story of an American hero who served his country honorably during World War ll in the Marine Corps. This would make a great Christmas gift for any history buff this holiday season and a perfect addition to any collection.
