Description: Original WWII Photograph Jewish Holocaust Concentration Camp Survivors Germany 1945 This photograph was taken by an unknown serviceman in the 777th Tank Battalion, part of the 69th Infantry Division. With Lt. Col. David T. Zweibel, the serviceman participated in the Siege of Leipzig. The Battalion entered Germany beginning February 1945, moved across the country in April, were policing an area 20 miles south of Leipzig in May, and departed from France in late June. Therefore, this photograph would have been taken between February and June 1945. There’s still some snow on the ground in the background, so I assume February, March, or April. Says "Germany 1945" on the background with no additional information. This 3 5/8 inch by 2.5 inch snapshot depicts a line of men, many obviously emaciated, wearing shabby clothes. At least two of the men seem to be dressed in an Orthodox manner. None appear to be wearing a prison uniform, so I assume they were recently liberated and put on whatever was in available. The line stretches far into the distance, with over 30 figures visible. It’s not clear what they’re lining up for, but there’s some sort of box or structure in the lower lefthand corner. Condition is good overall, with some hard creases on the right margin. This is an original, first generation photo which has never been published.
