These coins were released by the U.S. Mint in 2017 to honor the 100th Anniversary of the founding of Boys Town, the iconic children's home in Nebraska founded by Father Flanagan which was featured in the famous 1938 Mickey Rooney movie. The obverse of the Dollar features a child sitting in the fields at Boys Town looking at a tall tree imagining if they can grow in life as tall as the tree, and the reverse features children playing next to that tall tree, symbolizing their growth in life. The obverse of the Half Dollar features a child in 1917 standing in front of the famous pillar at the entrance to Boy's Town, and the reverse features modern day children graduating from Boy's Town in front of the original building. These coins are actually considered modern rarities and key dates because they minted a very tiny 31,648 coins of the Dollars and 23,212 coins of the Half Dollar. The coins come in the original government packaging which consists of the black felt presentation box, box sleeve, and certificate of authenticity.As you can see in the pics the coins are in perfect condition. They have that gorgeous mirror-image finish with frosty raised reliefs you expect from high quality proof coins.
