Description: Pair of 19th C Japanese Meiji Hibachi Braziers Nacre and Gold Inlay Lacquer Wood Pair of 19th Century Japanese Meiji Hibachi Braziers with Nacre, Silver and Gold Inlay Lacquered Wood, with removeable copper lining East Asia, Japan, Meiji period, (1868-1912) A pair of turned wood hibachi braziers (possibly paulownia or kiri wood), finely carved into a cylindrical form with a smooth rounded rim and base, beautifully adorned with butterflies and foliage, fruits and flowers delineated with inlays of mother of pearl, gold, silver and copper. The interior bowl is made of copper to hold coals or charcoal for heating rooms as well as warming tea or sake. Condition: Good condition, commensurate with age and use, minor scuffs and marks, mainly on the wood, though some minor scuffs and losses on lacquer. Appear to have original copper interior bowls.
