Growing Info & TipsPapalo (Porophyllum ruderale), also known as Quilquina / Papaloquelite /Yerba Porosa, is a yummy herbal addition to your garden. Native to Mexico, Central & South America it can be grown in Zones 4-9 as an annual that really thrives in the heat of summer and will reseed itself (if in a warm climate). The leaves are fragrant, bold in flavor and unique in taste… like a combination of arugula, rue, and citrus. They are best used fresh, like you would cilantro. Papalo herb can grow quite large and tall so it’s best to harvest from and enjoy it frequently. It grows well in the sun and will keep growing for several months. In the fall (as they days shorten) it will bloom. For Sowing the Papalo Seeds:Plant seeds after the chance of frost has past. Ideal soil temp is 80 degrees. Seeds can be planted directly in the ground or in pots or seed starting trays. Plant the seeds close to the surface, around 1/8th of an inch deep (very lightly covering them) in pre-moistened potting mix. They need light to germinate, so do not bury them deep- just a sprinkle of soil on top. Keep the soil moist but well drained. It can take from 7 to 20 days for germination so be patient. Days to maturity is roughly 70-80 days. Grows best in the sun. UsesThe leaves are fragrant, bold in flavor and unique in taste… like a combination of arugula, rue, and citrus. They are best used fresh, like you would cilantro. A yummy addition to salads, sandwiches, or for taco garnish etc. Please Note: All of my seeds are fresh and viable. Growing from seed is fun! The majority of the time it is a success but sometimes it’s not. This just is the way it is with nature and gardening. I hope you experience success with all the seeds, however I cannot be responsible for germination failure due to improper care or climate conditions etc.Any questions, please don’t hesitate to send me a message.
