Peter P. Hubner (1870-1928) UK Large 40" Oil Painting Landscape St.Jude's Church

Description: Up for consideration is a very large Impressionistic Painting of St. Jude's Church of Golders Green by listed English Artist Peter Paul Hubner (1870-1916). The painting alone without the frame measures a whopping 28 by 40 inches and with the frame overall dimensions are 36 by 48 inches. It is signed in the lower right corner "P. Hubner". There are some numbers etc on the back as well as the original sealed paper to protect the stretcher etc...no visible repairs or inpainting. There is a dimple on the right in the tree line...likewise there is a line along the top edge showing where the stretcher has come in contact with the canvas...these things are only noticeable when outside or in a very bright room...but in a normal setting indoors the infractions are diminished. The painting is bright and lively and was probably cleaned at one time. It comes from a super clean nonsmokers estate. The frame appears to original and definitely adds to the overall ambience and or presentation of the piece. The frame shows fine detailing which comes across even from a distance. Likewise it may be from an important manufacturer from "across the pond". Hubner work do not command huge dollars however given the size and quality of the frame it probably would be the largest paintings found in the historical record...possibly an exhibition painting of which the artist proudly shows his full surname which is not the case in many of his other works. Please understand the auction record is just that a record sometimes the sale goes to a collector other times to the trade or gallery and of which it is marked up beyond that of the historical record. When you sprinkle in variables such incredible original frame and large exhibition size work...you have to make accommodations for price...in short one simply does not place the value somewhere in between the record high and low nor is a dealer bound to the historical record...one is able to step out and move the goal post to a new level based on but not excluding or limited to variables such as significance of the work in relation to the artists development, marketplace desirability, size, condition, inflation, subject matter and provenance...etc. But in general more often than not larger works are viewed as being more desirable.
