The original setting used was �night snapshot� with the flash turned off, so exposure was reliant on ambient lighting. On the current camera, increasing �film speed�, ie, a higher ISO number, would give a slightly lighter but noticeably grainier photo. This version of the image has been enhanced (in Apple�s iPhoto) with a lighten shadows tool to 40%. This has revealed detail and made the scene appear more brightly lit, rather as the eye would see it at night. An alternative tweak, increasing exposure, also reveals detail in dark areas but makes light areas unnaturally bright and lacking detail. For dull daylight conditions and brightly sunlit scenes alike the lighten shadows tool can be beneficial but it calls for great restraint: 5-10% may be all that is needed.
