Du Bois founded at Atlanta University (now Clark Atlanta University) in 1940. The publication examined race and culture as they relate to social and political behaviors, and to literary analysis. In 1957, the journal was renamed “The Phylon Quarterly.” The publication was renamed again in 1960 to reflect its original title.
