PICASSO IN CANNES LE REPAS FRUGAL LISTED CZWIKLITZER 91

Description: RARE PLATE SIGNED LITHOGRAPHIC POSTER BY PICASSO AFTER THE FAMOUS ETCHING, "LE REPAS FRUGAL" APPROVED BY PICASSO IN 1966 Pablo Picasso authorized and limited edition poster printed by Devayne, Cannes, in 1966. This rare poster was used by Picasso to promote his artwork at Galerie 65 in Cannes. This authorized edition was comprised of only 1000 signed "Picasso" with red ink in the plate which is part of the printing process. This artwork is authenticated in Czwiklitzer number 91(a) ; The dimensions are an impressive 76 x 53 centimeters. The paper is archival and suitable for framing. The image is a strong impression and the paper is in excellent condition with no foxing or stains or wrinkles. I also have a second example of this artwork in my inventory which I could sell for a little less due to the condition being fair due to the fact that it has a few scattered spots of light foxing not affecting the image. Regarding the other example with the light foxing, a Conservation treatment for the artwork can be obtained at the buyer's request, I will pay for a professional paper conservator to clean the artwork prior to shipment. The treatment would be a minor procedure only treating the small affected areas as opposed to treating the entire work. This would preserve the original state of the artwork and not lighten the original inks and colors. The conservation procedure would take approximately one week to perform. The cost would be born by the seller contingent upon the buyer first placing a bonified bid on the artwork. The artwork will be shipped via a secure art tube. Provenance: This lithograph was purchased from an estate in France. This lithographic poster is highly symbolic of Picasso's Style. Picasso approved the image of his most famous and valuable etching, "Le Repas Frugal" to be reproduced on this rare print through an elaborate process of offset lithography. The original etching of "Le Repas Frugal" which this lithographic poster is based on recently sold at Sotheby’s on Oct. 29-30, 2004 for $142,400. This aforementioned etching was one of Picasso's first inked impressions from the edition of 250 made from the plate after it was steel-faced. Of more interest to collectors is the rare version of the print made before the plate was steel-faced. Christie’s London realized $680,000 when it appeared in London a few years ago. This rare poster lithographic print authorized by Pablo Picasso in his lifetime is a wonderful way to own and enjoy this masterpiece and still have an investment in fine art that will be a valuable long term asset that will benefit generations to come.
