Formerly known as the Carolinas Aviation Museum, the Sullenberger Aviation Museum closed in 2019 while a permanent location was found. The facility was able to raise over $31 million as leaders worked to "rethink and reshape" the museum's future. Sullenberger rose to fame for pulling off the Miracle on the Hudson, when he landed U.S. Airways Flight 1549 safely on the Hudson River in New York City after a catastrophic engine failure. Sullenberger is credited with saving more than 150 lives after the incredible landing. The Charlotte-bound flight has been a part of Queen City history ever since and the plane itself has been in Charlotte for more than a decade. The Sullenberger Aviation Museum says a short film will play on a loop that tells guests about the events of that day. It will be a focal point of the museum. The new 105,000-square-foot facility is located near Charlotte Douglas International Airport and will feature the aviation industry's past and present with interactive exhibits for guests to enjoy. Admission will be $5 for adults. Kids under 4 will be free. The museum is located at 4108 Minuteman Way in Charlotte North Carolina.
