It was born in Switzerland and first flown in 1959. It is expected the last one will be made in 2019. It is capable of taking off within a distance of 195m and landing within a distance of 130m while carrying a payload of 1200kg in almost any terrain. It holds the world record for the highest landing by a fixed-wing aircraft, at 5,750 m (18,865 feet), on the Dhaulagiri glacier in Nepal. The wings come off to make it easier to transport the plane to the flying field. Flying the PC-6 is easy with its large wing it will float around nicely at slower speeds, but apply full throttle and jam the sticks in the corners and she comes alive.
