Description: Rare original antique print from an 1890s French illustrated journal. It depicts a polar bear on an ice floe sea ice. Above the picture is the start of an article about hunting polar bears in Svalberg (then called Spitzbergen). The article continues on the back of the print. The French article can easily be translated online for free from a cell phone picture of the text. The print is very large (folio size), measuring approximately 10.5 x 14.5 inches (26.5 x 36.5 cm). The picture fills about half the page and measures about 8.5 x 6.75 inches, with a French caption below and unrelated text around it. The text could easily be trimmed before framing, or hidden under a window mat. The page is in excellent condition for its age. There is text/photos on the back of the print. See scan for an accurate view of the condition. This is GENUINE antique/vintage item. It is not a modern reproduction. I can combine multiple in purchases in one package.
