A beautiful Botanic Garden coupe plate from Portmeirion, this plate has no rim and gently curved edges. It is the perfect size for desserts or bread and butter and is freezer safe, oven safe, microwave safe and dishwasher safe. I have more items from Portmeirion Botanic Garden in my store The collection’s delightful transfer print pattern combines flowery motifs with butterflies and insects and a three-leaf border – a theme created by Portmeirion’s co-founder Susan Williams-Ellis. The history of legendary brand began from selling pottery in the gift shop in Portmeirion, a tourist village in North Wales. Some of the pottery was designed exclusively for the Portmeirion shop by Susan, who was then a freelance designer and illustrator. Near 1970 visited an antiquarian bookseller her attention turned to a horticulture book bursting with bright and detailed hand-coloured illustrations of flowers. There and then, Susan began to visualise a beautiful range of dinnerware with a different flower on each piece. For variety across the collection – and to improve the fit of the motifs on the tableware shapes – Susan thought about adding butterflies and insects, along with the now-famous triple-leaf border. This pattern was to be named ‘Botanic Garden’ and still be a very popular already more than 50 years.
