Description: Exquisitely crafted, this trinket box is possibly made of thuya burl wood and has a superb birds eye and shifting wood grain pattern. It is square and measures about 4.5 inches each side and 2 inches high. The birds-eye patterned burl wood is a deep honey color with extremely beautiful graining. The original finish was spotty, possibly shellac. I removed that finish with lacquer thinner and then applied several coats of raw linseed oil over a period of several months to bring out the deep richness of the wood grain. The construction of both the lid and base have been meticulously pieced and perfectly fitted. Each of the sections of both the top and bottom had to be precisely curved and joined at the proper angle to match the shape of the lid and base. The inner thinner panels were fitted into the bottom with projecting tops, carefully beveled so as to fit snugly into the lid. It is a snug fit - so much so that I rubbed a soap bar on the inside bevel which helped, but is still a little snug. A masterful example of wood craftsmanship, in exceptionally fine vintage condition.
