Description: This listing is the Report of the Chief of Engineers U.S. Army 1887 Appendix M, Improvement of Certain Rivers and Harbors of North Carolina and South Carolina. This is a report of Captain William H. Bixby. This report includes written descriptions as well as fold out maps, (many have personal notations in red) dealing with the Pamlico and Tar Rivers, The Trent River, Neuse River, Harbor at Beaufort, North Carolina, New River, Black River, Cape Fear River, Yadkin River, The Waccamaw River of South Carolina, The Great Pee Dee River, Georgetown Harbor, Winyah Bay, the Congaree River, and information on the period removal of sunken vessels and other obstructions as well as surveys of the Lockwoods Folly River, the Lumber River, Mingo Creek, Clarks Creek, South Carolina, The Little Pee Dee River, and Bulls Bay of South Carolina. This is a very rare and original working period printing with personal notations from an individual at the time. There are eleven great waterway maps remaining in the book with pages 1000-1122 remaining. This came to us from a source in Great Britain 30 years ago. We used it in our search for two sunken riverine Civil War ships, successfully finding one of them. The maps, being of the period immediately following the American Civil War are really useful as well as the tidal and waterfall charts and descriptions. The portion of the book appears to have been string bound and is still intact. The maps are fantastic, but as mentioned, this is only a portion of the original report, roughly 120 plus pages and the maps. No returns.
