Description: This collectible Poupee Millet artisan doll is a beanbag doll with ceramic porcelain head, hands and feet and a colorful silk beanbag body in a motif of painterly blossoms with pinks, coral, oranges, yellow, green and magenta colors. Each one of a kind Poupee Millet has a ceramic headdress, this one features a round birthday cake with a large slice cut out, the words Happy Bir-Day on top and frosting on the nose of the doll. Its foot is signed Serge 2005, the signature of artist Serge Chichportich, and year it was made. The doll is approximately 11 inches long including head-dress and approx. 9.5 inches wide at the widest point. See photos. The original paper hang tag is intact and reads: Poupee Millet with a logo, and Limited Edition, Made in U.S.A. This is one of the increasingly collectible artisan dolls by Poupee Millet, a studio that was launched in 1981 Paris, France, by two artists, Serge Chichportich and Pablo Peres, who released the first designs in 1982. Originally filled with millet, they switched to using tiny resin balls so the dolls can be hand washed. The partnership disbanded but each continued for a time making Poupees with Serge making them into the 2000s in the USA. No two Poupée are alike and they’re each works of art. As such, it is intended for adults, not suitable for a child’s play. Very good used condition with the exception of a flat chip at the top of the headdress, apparent in photos but not obvious to the eye. No other discernible flaws other than typical signs of age such as a few minor snags on the fabric. The ceramic headdress has color variations that appear to be part of the artistic process.
