Description: Original ancient pre-columbian pottery head of a chieftain wearing a headress. This is a fragment from a standing figure. Possibly Zapotec, Mexico, Mixtec circa AD 300-700. (which is our best guess). Or, alternatively, possibly Jalisco circa 100 BC - AD 100. Guaranteed to be authentic ancient pre-columbian. But, we are not certain of the specific culture & not certain of the specific circa date. From an early collection & said to have been found in approximately 1967. The left side of the headdress is missing & there are some small chips of loss around the other edges. The figure is missing from the neck down as this head would have originally had all the front features of a man. So, we are offering this head as a fragment from a larger figure. The losses probably occurred in ancient times as all of the areas along the edges which show loss are quite smooth indicating early separation of the other components from the head. The size is 3 3/8 inches tall by 2 3/8 inches wide by 1 inch thick. The weight is 2.5 ounces. Please examine the photos closely & purchase based on your own judgement as to condition & value.
