When applied to absorbent materials such as paper, the water evaporates and leaves behind the adhesive. If you use too much glue the material soaks up too much of the water before it evaporates. This can cause buckling, rippling, and puckering of the paper. Therefore it is imperative to apply only the tiniest amount of glue to paper or other absorbent materials.
