Description: PRINZ SIGISMUND(1902) She was built at Neptun Aktiengesellschaft, Schiffsweft under Maschinenfabrik, Rostock, Germany and launched Sept. 28, 1902 for the Hamburg-Amerika Line. She was a 4,680 GT ship with displacement of 8000 tons and length of 386' and beam of 45.3' an draft of 24.4'. Speed of 10 knots. She was seized by U.S. Government and renamed U.S.S. GENERAL W.C. GORGAS in 1919. Under charter from 1917 from the Panama RR Co it had carried troops and supplies to Europe. After being used as a troop transport to return troops from Europe in 1919 later that year it was converted back to commercial use as a passenger an freight ship operated by the Panama RR Co. In Jan. 1945 it was transferred to the War Shipping Board which later that year transferred the ship to the Soviet Union an ally in the last years of the war. It was renamed as the S.S.LOSOMONOV.
