Description: Organized drag racing in Puyallup WA started in 1959 at Thun Field, a small regional airport (now the Pierce County Airport) on the South Hill of Puyallup. After several organized races, the owner John Thun was talked into building a dedicated drag racetrack in the fields (and trees) to the east of the runway. Racing started at the new Puyallup Dragway in 1960, soon a promoter took over and brought the big names to Puyallup. "TV" Tommy Ivo, Don “Big Daddy” Garlits, along with local favorites Jim Green, Lyn Welfringer and Jerry “The King” Ruth raced there often. Then came the sponsors, local speed and machine shops sponsored races and prize money. In 1970 Craig Breedlove (of World Land Speed Record fame) bought the lease and the name was changed to Puyallup Raceways as they added a motocross track to the facility. By 1978 it was over, September of that year saw the last racing at Puyallup Raceway Park. You can still see some remnants of the drag strip if you look on Google Earth… One sticker features the Puyallup Raceway logo along with Jerry "The King" Ruth's "striper" dragster, The sticker is 2.5" x 3" Another has Jerry Ruth's Camaro Funny Car when it was sponsored by Pay N Pak (now defunct hardware store), the sticker is 3" round Another one features the original artwork from Puyallup Dragway, in the same color as the jackets given away to the winners, measures 3.25" x 3" The Hot Rod Magazine sticker is from the original issues, not sure when they changed it, early 60's? measures 3.5" x 2" The FoMoGo Drag Team is from the Tasca Ford Galaxie campaigned in 64/65. measures 3" x 1.5" The last one is from Pacific National Auto Parts, once on the corner of Pacific Ave and 40th street, they supplied parts and sponsored racing at Puyallup Dragways, measures 3 1/2" tall by 5 1/2" wideLimited edition, new reproduction stickers, made from UV resistant and waterproof vinyl.
