Description: Ralph Fabri, 'Pharaoh's Dream, etching, 1941, edition 50. Signed 'Ralph Fabri, S.A.E.' (Society of American Etchers), titled, and numbered '8/50' in pencil. A fine, richly-inked impression, on cream wove paper, with full margins (1 to 2 1/8 inches); hinge discoloration in the top left and top right sheet corners; printer's crease in the top left sheet corner (well away from the image), otherwise in excellent condition. Image size 11 7/8 x 8 7/8 inches; sheet size 14 11/16 x 11 7/16 inches. Archivally sleeved, unmatted. Created by the artist during WWII, Fabri's complex image depicts the destructiveness of humanity's age-old pursuit of self-interest and materialism. Among the numerous historical characters portrayed in the image foreground are Marie Antoinette, King Philip of Spain, Hitler, Caesar, Napoleon, Cleopatra, and Henry VIII. An impression of this work is in the permanent collection of the U. S. Library of Congress (Pennell Fund purchase).
