Historical Context: Bolen's Medal: Made by John Bolen in 1867, the dies for this medal were sold to J.W. Kline of Philadelphia in 1872. DeWitt’s Attribution: According to DeWitt, John Bolen created two of these medals in silver, fourteen in copper, and fourteen in brass, making it an incredibly limited piece. Bolen's Inscription: The word "Bolen" appears below Webster's bust, confirming its creator. Source: The medal is attributed to Johnson, who detailed the creation and rarity of these pieces. Additional Information: This is a noncontemporary political medalet, which was listed by DeWitt and is a significant piece for collectors of political medals or American history enthusiasts.
