RARE 1925 Primitive RAGGEDY ANN Homemade Doll w Provenance OOAK Shabby Loved

Description: This little gal was found w/ a note in the back of her bloomers before she was rescued from the trash bin! Her history is priceless. The paper identifies her original owner was a Freshman in High School when she wrote the paper for an English class in 1931, to which she received an A-, which of course will be sent along with her. The 3 pages are torn but still legible. This pretty much says it all. Please look at the photos and don't hesitate to ask any questions. She is, as found, from a local estate. "Raggedy Ann" "When I was a child, one of my most cherished treasures was Raggedy Ann. ... I loved her more than any of my prettier, more expensive dolls. Although through her I was the object of much teasing, she remained my favorite; and for a long time, wherever I went, there also went Raggedy Ann. She was completely home made, even to her facial expression, which I altered from time to time. Her eyes were two black shoe buttons, her nose merely a triangle colored with red pencil and her mouth was a wide curved line. Her hair was khaki-colored yarn; left, I suspect, from sweaters knitted during the war. She wore a dress of soft dark blue material, figured with tiny red flowers (the present dress is not original). On top of this she wore a white apron with a little pocket just big enough to hold a penny (there is no penny now). Her stockings were only an effect of red stripes produced by the useful red pencil upon her cloth legs. The stripes ran around her legs. When they became blurred from much handling her, I used to delight in "buying her a new pair of stockings" which I did by brightening the stripes. Her ungainly feet were covered with black sateen and each was surmounted by a small red button (the red has since worn off to reveal mother of pearl). I always thought she should be very proud of her "satin slippers" since she wore "only a housedress." Raggedy Ann's history is very brief. Mother made her for me one Christmas when I was nine years old (1925). From that day on, we were inseparable. The little rag doll accompanied me to meals, to bed and on trips. Her closest rival was a large beautifully featured doll by the name of May-Belle-Marie. She had delicate hands and feet and her arms and legs moved at the joint. She had curly hair and real eye lashes and would "go to sleep". May-Belle possessed many clothes; hats, dresses, and shoes but somehow I never bestowed upon her the love and affection which Raggedy Ann received. ...Her face had none of the sympathy found in Raggedy Anns' cloth countenance, and she would have been messed up if you had clasped her tightly and sobbed childish troubles into her hair. No, Raggedy Ann was unquestionably my favorite. I think I shall never forget the feel of her flat little body under my arms, her soft yarn hair brushing my chin. ...Now years later, it is she who stands out, the dearest of all my childhood treasures..." She has been in a "trunk" for a very long time. Her bloomers are gathered still around one legThe apron has several tears. The dress (newer) is in good shape w/ a pink ribbon to tie in the back, a maroon ribbon decorates the front neckline. Button eyes and on shoes are firmly attached. Face has a tear at the mouthStockings are faded (she could use some new ones :)A few tears here and there to her extremities, otherwise body is in good condition. I LOVE YOU in a heart is penned on the front. I think she's very happy to have been rescued from the rubbish and will love to be back in circulation again. ***Please view all photos carefully for detail … they are an important part of the description and message any questions prior to bidding.
