RARE 2 Piece Prototype Harley-Davidson OEM Year Rocker Cover Lower/ Upper 1 Off

Description: What you are looking at is a test prototype rocker set from Harley-Davidson- lower OEM 17507-83 and upper 17511-83. Unknown exactly what these are for but when you look at the casting numbers of dash 83 you wonder if these are the first Big Twin Evolution rockers, rumor is it that it is an early test set and that you could not get them off while the motor was inside the frame so they were redone to the three piece typical evolution style rocker covers. Also rumored to been a test XR-1000 top end and then they went a total different direction with that motor, ?Also in 1983 the Sporsters were still Ironhead up top, the Big Twin was just starting to change from Shovelhead to Evolution in late 1983-1984 time frame. The inner square is much bigger than the regular Evolution style. The bottom lines up with a regular Evolution heads for big twin and Evo Sporsters heads. The gaskets line up also. These were in a cabinet that was inside of the Robison Harley-Davidson race department and as the Harley-Davidson dealership in Daytona Beach we had a lot of prototype and test items in our shop. The factory would set up here during bike week and the races and leave a lot of one of a kind items here when they left. These were installed at one point and ran for a while, had some good ol silicone around base, the rockers need to be cleaned - you could run these as is or may need slight modifications on Evolution heads. No one would have these! No one! For the record- these are not the late model two piece rockers on the new motors- these are from 1983 when Harley-Davidson was switching from Shovelhead to Evolution Heads and XL was still Ironhead heads. Very rare. Be cool to run em or just add them to your rare collection or man cave. Please feel free to ask any questions about them if you want, I do not know much about them as they are very rare - they are OEM Harley-Davidson rockers as shown with the factory numbers.
