The author, Gottfried Fritschel, similarly bridged the old and new worlds. He had moved to the United States from Germany as a child before returning to his home country to study theology, and again traveling back to Iowa, where he taught at Wartburg Seminary of the Iowa Synod. A native German speaker, Fritschel often wrote in that language though he also mastered English and encouraged his students to do the same.This particular copy of Theophilus is older than most and is in remarkably good condition for its age. Published in 1895, it has almost no signs of wear as detailed in the Condition Description.
