For your consideration is a wonderful photograph identified in pencil on the verso as "After the Fire of Store on Corner of Main and Pleasant Street, Hyannis". It measures approximately 8 1/2" x 5 1/4" (including border). The actual image measures 8 1/4" x 4 3/4". This offers a poignant look at people displaced by the fire standing with their belongings in the snow. Note the horse and wagon on the left side of the photo. The photographer was S.A. Putnam, Hyannis, Mass. There is some corner wear and overall light soiling. Please view the enlargeable scans carefully and contact me with any questions. From the Barnstable Patriot: "It was just after 11:45 p.m. (December 2,1904) when L.P. Wilson, the proprietor of Hyannis Public Market, was awakened by his elderly mother alerting him, his wife and two children of the bright orange glare outside their apartment window above their store. They looked in disbelief at a ferocious blaze that seemed to be coming from Walter Baker’s department store next door. The family gathered, and moving as quickly as possible they escaped with just the clothes on their backs to Main Street to look in what could have only been horror at a fire that was consuming both their building and the ones next to theirs in raging “furnace like” flames".
